Vegan Camping Recipes

Historically, meat has dominated the grill when it comes to outdoor adventurers cooking while camping but there is no need to worry if you are a vegetarian or vegan camper. Camping Vegan has developed campground recipes that cater to these diets by recreating campfire classics with animal-friendly ingredients.

The Vegan BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwiches Recipe makes use of a Dutch oven and young green jackfruit as a meat substitute. With a homemade spice blend, canned jackfruit, brown sugar, BBQ sauce, and a little bit of oil, you can use the Dutch oven to cook the jackfruit until it begins to fall apart much like pork does. Add some vegan coleslaw made with shredded slaw mix, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, avocado, and agave nectar and throw it all between a couple slices of vegan approved bread and you’ve got yourself one heck of a healthy BBQ sandwich. There’s nothing like a hearty stew before or after a hike but you don’t need meat to make one! Camping Vegan’s Vegan Beef and Vegetable Stew Recipe uses the following ingredients:

3 large Carrots, rough chop

1 Onion, rough chop

2 Garlic Cloves

4 Red Potatoes, quartered

3 Stalks of Celery, chopped

1 box of vegetable stock

1 box seitan, rough chopped

3 tbsp. Flour

4 tbsp. olive oil

1 can chopped tomatoes

1/8 cup red wine

1 Sprig each of Rosemary, Sage, and Thyme

Salt and Pepper to taste

With your trusty Dutch oven, you can throw all these ingredients in and create a filling meal by following these simple steps. This meal is ideal for cooking by campfire under the stars!
