Welcome to Borrego Springs: General Manager, Tim Williams!

September 30, 2019

The hot summer temperatures are finally cooling in Borrego Springs and we're happy to introduce a new member of our team as we gear up for the Fall season! We spoke with Tim Williams, the new Dual General Manager of Palm Canyon Hotel & RV Resort and Borrego Valley Inn to learn more about his life in travel, hidden gems in Borrego Springs, and his exciting plans for the future of the properties.

Please join us in welcoming him to the Highway West Vacations family and say hello on your next visit to Borrego Springs!

What do you look forward to most about being part of the Highway West Vacations team?

I previously lived and worked in Borrego Springs. Returning to beautiful Borrego Springs was a long-time goal of mine, and I am very excited to be with a visionary company like Highway West that is on the leading edge of industry trends and opening up new concepts within the industry.

Did you relocate for the job? If so, where did you move from?

I relocated from San Antonio, Texas, where I was Assistant General Manager at Eilan Hotel & Spa which is a timeshare property. I've worked in the hospitality industry for 11 years and have held leadership positions with luxury hotels and resorts in Florida, California, St. Thomas (Virgin Islands), Cayman Islands (Cayman Brac), Colorado, and Texas.

What are some of your favorite things to do while traveling?

Meeting new people, learning local culture, staying in luxury hotels/resorts, visiting beach destinations, and eating fresh food.

Any favorite travel or road trip memories?

My family and I visited Bali, Indonesia, in 2017 and brought my mother. We arrived expecting a 45-minute ride to our villa, but, to our chagrin, it wound up being a 3-hour drive through windy mountain roads in the middle of the night! Our luggage was delayed by the airline and took about 4 days to arrive. We were staying in a fairly remote part of the island and had to survive without necessities until it arrived. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary, so I arranged for a private performance at our villa by a 20-piece local music/dance group which was comprised of youths from a local school that taught the traditional musical and dance elements. Definitely a one-of-a-kind experience despite the challenges!

What are some of you favorite things to do in Borrego Springs and Anza-Borrego State Park? Any hidden gems?

I played competitive high school golf, so I’ve always had an affinity for the Rams Hill Golf Club which is one of the most visually stunning courses in the country. My favorite restaurants are Kessling’s Kitchen and Fox Den Bar & Cantina at La Casa del Zorro Resort. World-renowned astronomer Dennis Mammana is based out of Borrego Springs and offers custom stargazing tours which I highly recommend.

What are some of your favorite features at Palm Canyon Hotel & RV Resort and Borrego Valley Inn?

As a huge fan of classic Western films I felt transported back into the Old West as I explored Palm Canyon Hotel & RV Resort. I could almost envision a gunfighter sitting in the corner drinking and playing poker as I walked in to the Bar. Borrego Valley Inn is such a special and peaceful place for rest, relaxation, and tranquility. A true gem in the California desert.
